This Super Bowl, Shining a Light on Human Trafficking

This year, more than 1 million people will be in Atlanta for the 2019 Super Bowl. Responding to the pervasive problem of human sex trafficking, which gains heightened media attention around the Super Bowl, Children’s Rights Executive Director Sandy Santana issued the following statement:

“The Super Bowl has become an annual opportunity to shine the light on human trafficking, a global scourge that destroys lives every day — including the lives of children. Children who are homeless, LGBTQ youth who have been rejected by their families, and children of color are particularly at risk. Traffickers target youth in foster care and group homes in huge numbers because these kids lack family and emotional relationships and support, making them especially vulnerable to exploitation. A shocking 60% of all child sex trafficking victims have a history in the child welfare system.”
