Today, in a win for LGBTQ families and children, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Philadelphia can uphold its anti-discrimination policies, affirming the District Court’s denial of a preliminary injunction requested by Catholic Social Services (CSS). Christina Wilson Remlin, Lead Counsel at Children’s Rights, issued this statement:
“By refusing to allow public funding of foster care agencies that discriminate based on sexual orientation, the City of Philadelphia has sent a message that children deserve loving families that are safe, diverse, and welcoming. Today’s decision signals that discriminating against same-sex couples is illegal and harmful to all children. Unfortunately, ten states still allow discrimination against LGBTQ adoptive parents, and we hope that this decision will encourage them to prioritize the best interest of children by maximizing the number of loving homes available to the kids who need them most.”
