This is a critical moment to take action for children’s rights. Stand with kids this Giving Tuesday.

Notes From the Field, Fall 2013

When no foster homes were available, Sean was placed in an institution “akin to being inside a prison.” Guards dictated when to wake, clean and eat, and he couldn’t leave without staff. In this issue, Sean’s story – and that of so many others – is brought to life in “When Institutions Are Called Home,” our In Focus feature in the fall edition of Notes From the Field, the Children’s Rights newsletter.

This issue also highlights CR’s fight for a boy sexually assaulted in a South Carolina institution, where leaders turned a blind eye to child-on-child violence. It includes updates on our advocacy in states like Oklahoma, Connecticut and Georgia, as well as information on the latest court ruling to give hope to kids in Texas, who can now press on with their lawsuit to improve foster care. It also features a Q&A with CR Board member John “Jay” Neukom, who explains why supporting CR is important to him.

And check out the photo packed review of our Eighth Annual Benefit, where we honored Frederic Dorwart, founder of Oklahoma-based Frederic Dorwart Lawyers, actor Rosie Perez and Emmy-Award winning casting director Sheila Jaffe. Stars like Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys joined former foster youth and child advocates at the inspiring event.
