(ATLANTA) – Children’s Rights is pleased to announce that media personality and social justice advocate Dr. Rashad Richey has been named to its Southern Steering Committee. Richey joins a team of community leaders dedicated to guiding and supporting Children’s Rights as the national nonprofit organization expands its presence in the South.
“Rashad has dedicated his life to ensuring that everyone has a fair chance in life, particularly the most vulnerable among us, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Committee,” said Sandy Santana, Executive Director of Children’s Rights. “With his formidable skills as a broadcaster, social commentator, community leader, and educator – to say nothing of his big heart – I know Rashad will be an extraordinary asset as Children’s Rights brings hope to a new generation of children in the South.”
Richey was voted “Best Talk Radio Personality in Atlanta” by readers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for his show on News and Talk 1380-WAOK. He is also the Political/Social Commentator for The People’s Station V-103 and appears as the daily Political Analyst for CBS 46 News and Peachtree TV Atlanta. Richey serves as Chief Editor-At-Large and Senior Writer for Rolling Out Magazine.
“For me, the struggles children face in foster care are personal,” said Richey. “As a teenager, I experienced life as a child in state care, and I am honored to join with Children’s Rights and my fellow Steering Committee members to make a real difference in the lives of at-risk youth. Nothing matters more to me than making the world a better place for these kids, and making sure they know there are people out there who care.”
In 2017, Richey was honored by President Obama with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his work establishing the Rashad Richey Foundation, an organization dedicated to mentoring at-risk youth. He has also received various recognitions and awards from Fulton County, the City of Atlanta, the Georgia Secretary of State, and many others for excellence in broadcasting and community leadership.
