Comedian and foster alum Monroe Martin is ready to school you on the truth about mentors and foster youth. In this clip Martin talks about the value of mentors and how all foster children deserve one. Additionally, Monroe weighs in on the fact that even though he didn’t have a mentor, he sought out foster youth to help and used media portrayals of mentoring as his inspiration.
I never had a mentor, but I was a mentor and that was the wrong step because I didn’t know anything about life. I just watched a lot of movies and in these movies I watched they had a white lady talking to a group of inner-city kids. And the kids had a lot of questions about life and she would just say, “It’s in here, it’s in your heart.”
