ATLANTA – Children’s Rights, a national nonprofit advocating for vulnerable children, will host its inaugural Atlanta Benefit & Inspiration Awards Luncheon at the Cherokee Town Club on Friday, November 16, 2018. Hosted by Jeff Dauler of Atlanta Star Radio 94.1, the following people will be honored for their work to advocate for vulnerable children in Atlanta:
- 2018 Children’s Rights Inspiration Award: Kate Atwood, Founder of Kate’s Club and first Executive Director of ChooseATL
Given annually to an individual making extraordinary contributions to children so that they can live free from fear, abuse and exploitation. - 2018 Fostering the Future Children’s Advocate Award: George McKerrow, Co-Founder and CEO of Ted’s Montana Grill
Given annually to an individual and/or an organization who exemplifies dedication to the safety and well-being of children and takes action to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect. - 2018 Jeffrey O. Bramlett Children’s Champion Award: Trenny Stovall, Director of DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center
Given annually to an outstanding legal professional working to reform and improve child welfare in the South.
Children’s Rights is establishing a new Southeast office housed at the Atlanta headquarters of law firm Hall Booth Smith, which is donating space as well as providing administrative and pro bono support. In addition, Children’s Rights celebrates the generous support of Atlanta law firm Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore, which has endowed an award in honor of the late Jeffrey O. Bramlett. A former partner of the firm, Bramlett worked closely with Children’s Rights on landmark litigation that secured important protections for Georgia’s foster children and established a precedent regarding legal representation of children in judicial proceedings.
“From standing up for kids in Georgia’s foster care system to winning key legal battles for foster children in Texas, Children’s Rights’ work in the South has grown tremendously over the years,” said Christina Wilson Remlin, Lead Counsel at Children’s Rights. “As a proud native of Atlanta, I am committed to dramatically increasing the number of children we can protect in Georgia and the wider region.”
Also in attendance will be Edgar Carranza, a former foster youth from Atlanta who was separated from his father and forced into foster care by the U.S. immigration system. Learn more about his story here.

As Children’s Rights expands in the Southeast, all proceeds from this event directly support the organization’s efforts to use strategic advocacy and legal action to defend the rights, safety, and well-being of children in foster care and other state child welfare institutions.
