Children’s Rights is proud to honor Global Investment Firm KKR with the Children’s Champion Award at our NYC Benefit on Wednesday, October 18.

At the outset of the pandemic, KKR supported Children’s Rights’ rapid response to address the inequities and flaws—exacerbated by COVID-19—inherent in the U.S. child welfare system. With their support, Children’s Rights was able to quickly respond to the crisis faced by at-risk older youth aging out of the foster system during the pandemic, and advocate for the critical community supports they needed to be healthy and safe.

KKR saw the danger to kids more clearly and acted more quickly than our own government to provide a lifeline for youth when the pandemic struck, exposing systemic shortcomings that have been there for decades..

On October 18th, @ChildrensRights is honoring author and journalist Roxanna Asgarian for her work in exposing the truth about child welfare, and bringing to life the grief and loss suffered by children and their families at the hands of a system responsible for keeping them safe and healthy. Instead, they hurt kids more than they help them.

Roxanna’s book, ‘We Were Once a Family: A Story of Love, Death and Child Welfare’ tells the story the mainstream media missed in its coverage of the tragedy of six children betrayed by the child welfare system. In doing so, she is shining a light on the issues that drive the work of Children’s Rights.

Iesha experienced the pain and trauma of family separation as a child and as a mother. She knows first-hand the intergenerational trauma that the system heaps upon families and has dedicated her life to keeping families together.
