Today seventeen states, including Washington, New York and California, filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration over its policy of separating immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. The lawsuit demands, among other things, that the Court order The Trump administration to:
- immediately end the policy of separating families at the border;
- quickly reunify all children separated from their parents, unless there is a court finding that the parents are unfit; and
- stop deporting separated parents without their children, unless the parent affirmatively, knowingly and voluntarily waives the right to reunification before removal after consultation with an attorney.
