FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
In response to the budget deal that President Trump signed into law today, Sandy Santana, executive director for Children’s Rights, issued the following statement:
“This deal is a step in the right direction for children. While it took tireless advocacy to add in key provisions at the 11th hour, this budget makes vital investments for our nation’s most vulnerable kids. It is gratifying to see the inclusion of the Families First Prevention Services Act; now more than ever we need to direct resources toward services that strengthen families and keep them safely intact. The additional funding for the opioid crisis will also serve to support at-risk families. Additionally, the extension of CHIP to a full 10 years is critical for keeping children insured and healthy.
However, there is still much work to be done. It is unconscionable that Congress has failed to protect thousands who call the U.S. home and, for years, have made considerable contributions to this country. It is imperative that our lawmakers defend and extend DACA before its protections disappear on March 5.”
