Oklahoma child welfare reform case proceeds as judge denies state’s motion to dismiss

07 Jan 2009 / Posted by cr

Following a full day of oral arguments in the lawsuit brought against the state of Oklahoma by Children’s Rights and local counsel, seeking the comprehensive reform of the state’s badly dysfunctional child welfare system on behalf of the more than 10,000 abused and neglected children who depend on the system for protection and care, Federal District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell this evening denied the state’s motion to dismiss the case on the basis of its constitutional claims, enabling it to proceed.

We’ll post more information about Judge Frizzell’s decision as we get it; meantime, preliminary reports on the hearing can be found on KOTV Tulsa and in The Oklahoman, and a full archive of materials related to Children’s Rights’ campaign to reform the Oklahoma child welfare system can be found at www.childrensrights.org/oklahoma.
