#FosterMyEducation: Comedian Monroe Martin on Foster Youth, Life Skills, and Homelessness

By Monroe Martin

Comedian and foster alum Monroe Martin is here to school you on the truth about foster youth and life skills in his latest clip for #FosterMyEducation. Getting an education is tough enough for foster youth, but even the life skills that so many people take for granted can be overlooked in the state care system. In this video Martin jokes about lacking those skills and how he managed to have a girlfriend while stuffing pillow cases with winter coats.

In foster care they don’t teach you any life skills, like how to prioritize your budget or anything. I had pillowcases stuffed full of winter coats and had a girlfriend! And she laid her head down on soggy pillowcases every night. That is love!
